Proverbios 29

El hombre que reprendido endurece la cerviz,
De repente será quebrantado, y no habrá para él medicina.

² Cuando los justos dominan, el pueblo se alegra;
Mas cuando domina el impío, el pueblo gime.

³ El hombre que ama la sabiduría alegra a su padre;
Mas el que frecuenta rameras perderá los bienes.

⁴ El rey con el juicio afirma la tierra;
Mas el que exige presentes la destruye.

⁵ El hombre que lisonjea a su prójimo,
Red tiende delante de sus pasos.

⁶ En la transgresión del hombre malo hay lazo;
Mas el justo cantará y se alegrará.

⁷ Conoce el justo la causa de los pobres;
Mas el impío no entiende sabiduría.

⁸ Los hombres escarnecedores ponen la ciudad en llamas;
Mas los sabios apartan la ira.

⁹ Si el hombre sabio contendiere con el necio,
Que se enoje o que se ría, no tendrá reposo.

¹⁰ Los hombres sanguinarios aborrecen al perfecto,
Mas los rectos buscan su contentamiento.

¹¹ El necio da rienda suelta a toda su ira,
Mas el sabio al fin la sosiega.

¹² Si un gobernante atiende la palabra mentirosa,
Todos sus servidores serán impíos.

¹³ El pobre y el usurero se encuentran;
Jehová alumbra los ojos de ambos.

¹⁴ Del rey que juzga con verdad a los pobres,
El trono será firme para siempre.

¹⁵ La vara y la corrección dan sabiduría;
Mas el muchacho consentido avergonzará a su madre.

¹⁶ Cuando los impíos son muchos, mucha es la transgresión;
Mas los justos verán la ruina de ellos.

¹⁷ Corrige a tu hijo, y te dará descanso,
Y dará alegría a tu alma.

¹⁸ Sin profecía el pueblo se desenfrena;
Mas el que guarda la ley es bienaventurado.

¹⁹ El siervo no se corrige con palabras;
Porque entiende, mas no hace caso.

²⁰ ¿Has visto hombre ligero en sus palabras?
Más esperanza hay del necio que de él.

²¹ El siervo mimado desde la niñez por su amo,
A la postre será su heredero.

²² El hombre iracundo levanta contiendas,
Y el furioso muchas veces peca.

²³ La soberbia del hombre le abate;
Pero al humilde de espíritu sustenta la honra.

²⁴ El cómplice del ladrón aborrece su propia alma;
Pues oye la imprecación y no dice nada.

²⁵ El temor del hombre pondrá lazo;
Mas el que confía en Jehová será exaltado.

²⁶ Muchos buscan el favor del príncipe;
Mas de Jehová viene el juicio de cada uno.

²⁷ Abominación es a los justos el hombre inicuo;
Y abominación es al impío el de caminos rectos.

Proverbs 29

¹ A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes
will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

² When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
when the wicked rule, the people groan.

³ A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.

⁴ By justice a king gives a country stability,
but one who is greedy for bribes tears it down.

⁵ Whoever flatters his neighbor
is spreading a net for his feet.

⁶ An evil man is snared by his own sin,
but a righteous one can sing and be glad.

⁷ The righteous care about justice for the poor,
but the wicked have no such concern.

⁸ Mockers stir up a city,
but wise men turn away anger.

⁹ If a wise man goes to court with a fool,
the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace.

¹⁰ Bloodthirsty men hate a man of integrity
and seek to kill the upright.

¹¹ A fool gives full vent to his anger,
but a wise man keeps himself under control.

¹² If a ruler listens to lies,
all his officials become wicked.

¹³ The poor man and the oppressor have this in common:
The LORD gives sight to the eyes of both.

¹⁴ If a king judges the poor with fairness,
his throne will always be secure.

¹⁵ The rod of correction imparts wisdom,
but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.

¹⁶ When the wicked thrive, so does sin,
but the righteous will see their downfall.

¹⁷ Discipline your son, and he will give you peace;
he will bring delight to your soul.

¹⁸ Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
but blessed is he who keeps the law.

¹⁹ A servant cannot be corrected by mere words;
though he understands, he will not respond.

²⁰ Do you see a man who speaks in haste?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.

²¹ If a man pampers his servant from youth,
he will bring grief in the end.

²² An angry man stirs up dissension,
and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.

²³ A man's pride brings him low,
but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.

²⁴ The accomplice of a thief is his own enemy;
he is put under oath and dare not testify.

²⁵ Fear of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

²⁶ Many seek an audience with a ruler,
but it is from the LORD that man gets justice.

²⁷ The righteous detest the dishonest;
the wicked detest the upright.

¹ Huye el impío sin que nadie lo persiga;
Mas el justo está confiado como un león.

² Por la rebelión de la tierra sus príncipes son muchos;
Mas por el hombre entendido y sabio permanece estable.

³ El hombre pobre y robador de los pobres
Es como lluvia torrencial que deja sin pan.

⁴ Los que dejan la ley alaban a los impíos;
Mas los que la guardan contenderán con ellos.

⁵ Los hombres malos no entienden el juicio;
Mas los que buscan a Jehová entienden todas las cosas.

⁶ Mejor es el pobre que camina en su integridad,
Que el de perversos caminos y rico.

⁷ El que guarda la ley es hijo prudente;
Mas el que es compañero de glotones averg:uenza a su padre.

⁸ El que aumenta sus riquezas con usura y crecido interés,
Para aquel que se compadece de los pobres las aumenta.

⁹ El que aparta su oído para no oír la ley,
Su oración también es abominable.

¹⁰ El que hace errar a los rectos por el mal camino,
El caerá en su misma fosa;
Mas los perfectos heredarán el bien.

Mas el que se apresura a enriquecerse no será sin culpa.

²¹ Hacer acepción de personas no es bueno;
Hasta por un bocado de pan prevaricará el hombre.

²² Se apresura a ser rico el avaro,
Y no sabe que le ha de venir pobreza.

²³ El que reprende al hombre, hallará después mayor gracia
Que el que lisonjea con la lengua.

²⁴ El que roba a su padre o a su madre, y dice que no es maldad,
Compañero es del hombre destruidor.

²⁵ El altivo de ánimo suscita contiendas;
Mas el que confía en Jehová prosperará.

Proverbs 28

¹ The wicked man flees though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

² When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers,
but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.

³ A ruler who oppresses the poor
is like a driving rain that leaves no crops.

⁴ Those who forsake the law praise the wicked,
but those who keep the law resist them.

⁵ Evil men do not understand justice,
but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.

⁶ Better a poor man whose walk is blameless
than a rich man whose ways are perverse.

⁷ He who keeps the law is a discerning son,
but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.

⁸ He who increases his wealth by exorbitant interest
amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor.

⁹ If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law,
even his prayers are detestable.

¹⁰ He who leads the upright along an evil path
will fall into his own trap,
but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.

¹¹ A rich man may be wise in his own eyes,
but a poor man who has discernment sees through him.

¹² When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;
but when the wicked rise to power, men go into hiding.

¹³ He who conceals his sins does not prosper,
but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

¹⁴ Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD,
but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

¹⁵ Like a roaring lion or a charging bear
is a wicked man ruling over a helpless people.

¹⁶ A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment,
but he who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long life.

¹⁷ A man tormented by the guilt of murder
will be a fugitive till death;
let no one support him.

¹⁸ He whose walk is blameless is kept safe,
but he whose ways are perverse will suddenly fall.

¹⁹ He who works his land will have abundant food,
but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

²⁰ A faithful man will be richly blessed,
but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.

yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.

²² A stingy man is eager to get rich
and is unaware that poverty awaits him.

²³ He who rebukes a man will in the end gain more favor
than he who has a flattering tongue.

²⁴ He who robs his father or mother
and says, "It's not wrong"—
he is partner to him who destroys.

²⁵ A greedy man stirs up dissension,

No te jactes del día de mañana;
Porque no sabes qué dará de sí el día.

² Alábete el extraño, y no tu propia boca;
El ajeno, y no los labios tuyos.

³ Pesada es la piedra, y la arena pesa;
Mas la ira del necio es más pesada que ambas.

⁴ Cruel es la ira, e impetuoso el furor;
Mas ¿quién podrá sostenerse delante de la envidia?

⁵ Mejor es reprensión manifiesta
Que amor oculto.

⁶ Fieles son las heridas del que ama;
Pero importunos los besos del que aborrece.

⁷ El hombre saciado desprecia el panal de miel;
Pero al hambriento todo lo amargo es dulce.

⁸ Cual ave que se va de su nido,
Tal es el hombre que se va de su lugar.

Proverbs 27

¹ Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

² Let another praise you, and not your own mouth;
someone else, and not your own lips.

³ Stone is heavy and sand a burden,
but provocation by a fool is heavier than both.

⁴ Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming,
but who can stand before jealousy?

⁵ Better is open rebuke
than hidden love.

⁶ Wounds from a friend can be trusted,
but an enemy multiplies kisses.

⁷ He who is full loathes honey,
but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.

⁸ Like a bird that strays from its nest
is a man who strays from his home.

⁹ Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart,
and the pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest counsel.

¹⁰ Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father,
and do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes you—
better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.

Como no conviene la nieve en el verano, ni la lluvia en la siega,
Así no conviene al necio la honra.

² Como el gorrión en su vagar, y como la golondrina en su vuelo,
Así la maldición nunca vendrá sin causa.

³ El látigo para el caballo, el cabestro para el asno,
Y la vara para la espalda del necio.

⁴ Nunca respondas al necio de acuerdo con su necedad,
Para que no seas tú también como él.

⁵ Responde al necio como merece su necedad,
Para que no se estime sabio en su propia opinión.

⁶ Como el que se corta los pies y bebe su daño,
Así es el que envía recado por mano de un necio.

⁷ Las piernas del cojo penden inútiles;
Así es el proverbio en la boca del necio.

⁸ Como quien liga la piedra en la honda,

Proverbs 26

¹ Like snow in summer or rain in harvest,
honor is not fitting for a fool.

² Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,
an undeserved curse does not come to rest.

³ A whip for the horse, a halter for the donkey,
and a rod for the backs of fools!

⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
or you will be like him yourself.

⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly,
or he will be wise in his own eyes.

⁶ Like cutting off one's feet or drinking violence
is the sending of a message by the hand of a fool.

⁷ Like a lame man's legs that hang limp
is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.

⁸ Like tying a stone in a sling
is the giving of honor to a fool.

⁹ Like a thornbush in a drunkard's hand
is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.

¹⁰ Like an archer who wounds at random
is he who hires a fool or any passer-by.

¹¹ As a dog returns to its vomit,
so a fool repeats his folly.

¹² Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road,
a fierce lion roaming the streets!"

¹⁴ As a door turns on its hinges,
so a sluggard turns on his bed.

¹⁵ The sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.

¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes
than seven men who answer discreetly.

¹⁷ Like one who seizes a dog by the ears
is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.

¹⁸ Like a madman shooting
firebrands or deadly arrows

¹⁹ is a man who deceives his neighbor
and says, "I was only joking!"

²⁰ Without wood a fire goes out;
without gossip a quarrel dies down.

²¹ As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire,
so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.

²² The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
they go down to a man's inmost parts.

²³ Like a coating of glaze over earthenware
are fervent lips with an evil heart.

²⁴ A malicious man disguises himself with his lips,
but in his heart he harbors deceit.

²⁵ Though his speech is charming, do not believe him,
for seven abominations fill his heart.

²⁶ His malice may be concealed by deception,
but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

²⁷ If a man digs a pit, he will fall into it;
if a man rolls a stone, it will roll back on him.

²⁸ A lying tongue hates those it hurts,
and a flattering mouth works ruin.
