Today's Thoughts: Called to Get In & to Get Out
The Lord said to Abram, "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you." Genesis 12:1
We hear sermons preached frequently about being called IN TO something but we do not often hear about being called OUT OF something. I wonder how many pastors that have fallen into temptation were told by God beforehand to leave the ministry? I am not saying that God knew they would end up in an affair but I am saying that disobedience does lead to multiple problems.
Think about it: Let's say that in God's still small voice, He said, "You need to leave your job." The person says, "What? This cannot be God's voice! I am doing great in my job. I just got a raise and I am now at the top of my field. God would never want me to do that." So you ignore the instruction. Next thing you know, you are out of a job.
Wouldn't it have been better to leave in faith than to be fired? Wouldn't it be better to quit out of obedience than to fall into disobedience?
Bobbye was telling me today that this exact scenario happened to her. She was not trained to hear the Lord yet but she knew God told her to quit her job over 12 years ago. She was at the top of her career and making a six-figure salary with lots of bonuses and perks. Bobbye ignored the voice of the Lord and ended up very sick...for a few years. After telling the Lord, "I give up..." her life began to change and healing began.
There are times that we just do not want to change course but it is through the change that God brings healing through new opportunities and new ways of thinking. I know that the Lord wants a change of course in me too.
I can kick and scream and make excuses but deep in my heart, I know what I need to do. So, I prayed and asked God for confirmation. He led me to Abraham in Genesis 12:1:
The Lord had said to Abram, "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you."
God told Abram to Get out. He was not in sin in his country but he would have ended up in sin by staying there. He had no direction or instruction of where to go.
He was just told to leave.
Many of us do not want to hear from the Lord because we are then accountable to do what He says. The door of obedience swings both ways...In To and Out Of.
Here we go...one step at a time!
